Hawanatu lives with her mother in a single bedroom house in the Wellington Community in Sierra Leone. Her house does not have access to water or electricity.
Her father is a petty trader and does not have time to take care of Hawanatu, her sisters and her mother. Her mother, also a petty trader, is the main provider of the home. With a monthly income of $60, Hawanatu’s mother does not make enough to cover the family needs.
Hawanatu attends an elementary school in her community, and she wants to be a seamstress when she grows up! Unfortunately, when Hawanatu is unable to pay her fees on time, she must stay home during school hours. Her meals are determine by the availability of funds but often are unavailable.
Despite her predicament Hawanatu is committed to her school work. She uses a locally made kerosine lamp to study at night. Dorothy, your kind donation will keep Hawanatu healthy and strong! Thank you for your support!
