A Delighted Morlai Gets a Net
posted August 30, 2010

Morlai lives with his parents and two siblings in a single bedroom home with no running water and electricity. Morlai’s father is a motor mechanic and his mother is a housewife. Morlai’s father’s meager income cannot cover their family needs and Morlai has known poverty all his life. Morlai is very clever and would like to go to school but his parents cannot afford to pay for it. Quite likely he will remain uneducated and will end up becoming a motor mechanic like his father.
Morlai was delighted when he got a mosquito net – and it made his mother happy as well. Mosquito is one of the leading killers of children under 5, and this net will help keep Morlai safe! Thanks Steve for providing Morlai this simple and effective protection against mosquitoes and malaria.

Vitamin Supplements Give Hope to a Struggling Nephew
posted August 18, 2010
Unisia was born in Whalah village in Bombali District, Northern Sierra Leone. Unisia’s father is a subsistence farmer and his mother is a food seller. Unisa, on the other hand, lives in Wellington, a suburb of Freetown, with his aunt and uncle and their 4 children. His uncle is currently unemployed and his aunt, a petty trader, has a monthly income of US$60.
Her income of $60 monthly does not cover the needs of the family. This has resulted in nutritionally deficient and skipped meals. The family currently averages 1-2 meals a day.
Unisa was delighted to receive the nutritional supplements – as he is concerned about growing tall and strong. Thank you, Neil, for helping to provide the nutritional supplements to Unisa!

Better nutrition for a deficient diet
posted August 18, 2010
Marie lives with her mother and two siblings in a zinc sheet house with no running water and no electricity. Her father is deceased and her mother, who is just a house wife / home maker, has no steady income. Marie and her family depend on and live under the benevolence of good-hearted people who give them food every day. Her nutrition has been adversely affected and some days they get by with only one meal.
Marie has known poverty all her life. She walks to school wearing plastic slippers. She also wakes up early to fetch water from a community tap that is half a mile away from home. Marie’s mother finds it extremely hard to pay her school fees and this is has caused disruptions in her schooling.
The provision of the nutritional supplements was warmly welcomed as their diet is typically unbalanced and nutritionally deficient. Thanks, Daryl, for helping to provide better nutrition for this growing girl!

Abubakarr the future medical doctor is now staying healthy with supplements
posted August 18, 2010
Abubakarr was born at the peak of the civil war in Sierra Leone. His father, a petty trader, is now deceased. His mother works far away and has to leave the home very early and returns very late. His mother is the main provider with monthly income of US $40, which is inadequate for basic family needs.
Abubakarr does light errands for people so that he can have food in his mother’s absence. Their home does not have running water or electricity. Consequently, Abubakarr has to walk some distance each day to fetch water for domestic purposes. At night, the only source of light available is a crude locally-made kerosene lamp. Thankfully, some of their neighbors have electricity and Abubakarr goes to their house to study / finish his homework at night. Abubakarr wants to become a medical doctor when he grows up.
Thanks to these nutritional supplements, this aspiring medical doctor can now stay healthy. They are enriching his diet and providing valuable nutrition. Thanks for your support Daryl!

Double the impact because a net is shared with a sibling
posted August 18, 2010
Sulaiman attends the United Methodist Church Primary School in Wellington, very close to where he lives with his father, mother, brother and sisters in a two bedroom apartment with no running water and no electricity. His father is a painter and his mother is a gardener with a combined monthly income of US$ 70 – not enough to cover the basic family needs.
Sulaiman walks to school with a pair of plastic shoes because his parents cannot afford to buy him nice shoes. Sulaiman likes going to school but hates being sent home from school, as is usually the case, due to late payment of school fees. He studies using a kerosene lamp at night and sleeps on a bed made of grass with his brother.
Sulaiman was very happy to receive a net and this will keep him safe from mosquitoes. Thanks to Daryl, this simple protection will keep him and his brother free from malaria.

A mosquito shield protects a future aviation manager
posted August 18, 2010
Mariama lives in a single bedroom block house with no running water and poor toilet facilities. She lives together with her father, mother and three siblings. Every morning Mariama walks half a mile to fetch water for domestic use. Mariama helps take care of her younger siblings in the afternoons. In the evenings, she goes to her mother’s market table to help pack the goods her mother to sell.
Although the house where Mariama and her family live is connected to the electricity grid, electricity supply is not dependable. She therefore sometimes has to use a locally made kerosene lamp to study. Her father and mother are petty traders and co-providers for the home with their monthly income of US$ 120, this is not enough to cover the family needs. Mariama wants to be an aviation manager when she grows up.
Mariama sends her gratitude for the provision of the mosquito net that you can see her holding and lying under in the photos. Daryl, thanks for providing a mosquito-shield for this future aviation manager!
