doh_007
Dear Jennifer, Kristin, Corliss, Craig, Pradeep, Holly, Susan and James, Jin, James, James and Julie, and Akiko,

Doranatu lives at 56 Upper Mellon Street with her parents and three brothers. She is nine years of age and attends the Salmed Islamic primary school in class four. Doranatu’s favorite subject is Mathematics and apart from school, she likes to tell jokes and enjoys playing with her friends. She is very committed to her academic work and aspires to be an engineer when she grows up.

Doranatu’s father, Ibrahim, is a police officer and the main provider of the home with  a monthly income of $70, which is not enough to cover the basic needs of the home. Her mother Fanta is a tailoring trainee. Not only does Doranatu’s father provide for her family, but he also financially supports his extended relatives, three of whom are now very old.

Often, Doranatu is seen walking barefoot and wearing unclean clothes. She sometimes sells leafy vegetables on the weekends in order to help raise money for the family to prepare food. This family lives in a single bedroom apartment with no running water or electricity.

In pursuit of her dream, Doranatu refuses to be complacent with her studies. She uses a kerosene lamp to study at night and sleeps on a mat spread on the bare floor. Thank you all so much for helping support Doranatu continue with her studies. Both her and her parents very much appreciate your support!
