Saffie is the mother of Rugiatu and Amara, and the grandmother of Fasineh. They live in Sierra Leone in a two bedroom apartment zinc sheet home with electricity, but no running water. Saffie’s husband is unemployed so Saffie is the main provider of their home by gardening and selling vegetables. Her monthly income of $40 is not enough to cover their basic family needs.
Saffie’s daughter Rugiatu is an unemployed widow and Ragiatu’s two children Fasineh and Hudson attend the United Mission Council primary school in class five and class two. Fasineh wants to be a medical doctor when he grows up and Hudson wants to be an engineer. Saffie’s son Amara attends the David Arnold Junior Secondary school and is in class 3. He wants to be a lawyer when he grows up.
