Julia lives with her parents and five siblings in an old mud house with no running water and no electricity. At her age Julia is very active in the children’s department of her church in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
Julia enjoys reading literature and listening to the radio. She wants to be a journalist when she grows up.
Her father is a laborer and the main provider of the home with a monthly income of $40. Her mother is a petty trader with a monthly income of $40, which is not enough to cover the basic family needs.
Julia has to walk two miles to and from school everyday. Most days Julia goes to school without food for lunch. Julia is in school due to the financial contributions made from neighbors that she does light errands for.
Julia studies using a kerosene lamp at night and sleeps on a mat spread on the bare floor. She is graced with clothes by some good neighbours and some members of her church.
Thank you, Sam, Udayan, and Mukesh, for your gifts. You have supplied enough vitamin supplements to last Julia a year!
