Marie Receives Nutritional Supplements

Marie
Dear Michael, Ted and Pam, Brian and Robin, and Erin,

Marie lives with her mother, sister, and two brothers in a single bedroom, zinc sheet home in Sierra Leone. Their home has no electricity and no running water.

Marie’s father worked as a guard, however he abandoned the family more than six years ago. Marie’s mother is blind. She is a beggar and the main provider of the home. The monthly income is difficult to determine as it varies, but it is usually not enough to cover the basic family needs.

Marie works hard to help her family survive. Everyday she goes with her mother to beg in the street, trying to earn enough money for the day. Marie also helps her elder sister do laundry and fetch water for the rest of the family.

It is difficult for Marie and the rest of her family to eat a good meal every day. Occasionally, their neighbors will assist Marie’s family with a few cups of rice and cooking condiments during the raining season.

Marie wants to be a nurse when she grows up, but she cannot attend school because her mother cannot afford to pay the school fees.

Thank you Michael, Ted and Pam, Brian and Robin, and Erin for your gift. You have supplied Marie with enough vitamins to last a year!
