Ann Marie lives in a populated compound that hosts many families at the Upper Mellon Street in the Wellington Community of Sierra Leone. She lives with her mother, father, two brothers, and two sisters in a two bedroom apartment with no running water, no electricity, and very poor toilet facilities.
The father is a mason and the main provider of the home with monthly income of $70, which is not enough to cover the basic family needs. Ann Marie is very hard working both in school and at home. The mother is a gardener and helps her husband with the little she gets from sales of the vegetables she plants.
Ann Marie wants to be a nurse when she grows up. She uses a locally made kerosine lamp to study at night and sleeps on a mat spread on the bare floor. Thank you Akiko for the generous gift that will help Ann Marie stay healthy!
