Michaela was born in Freetown, the capital city of Sierra Leone. Michaela and her family live in a zinc sheet house with no running water or electricity. Her father is an army officer with a monthly income of around $100. Her step mother sells cooked rice and vegetables. Together, the two still cannot care for their family’s health, education and well being. The family comes from the Limba ethnic group and they belong to the Christian religion.
Michaela attends St. Anthony’s Primary School in Freetown, and she enjoys studying Mathematics and English. She loves to cook, run errands, play with her peers, and dance to fast music. She is a healthy and active girl that needs much love and encouragement. She hopes one day to become a doctor.
When Michaela received a full scholarship, Michaela and her family were filled with joy. The money will ensure she excels in school with the necessary support, books, and supplies. Thanks to all the donors who helped make this possible! Michaela says a big “thank you” from the bottom of her heart to David, Alexander, Kandace, Chris, Bill, Colleen, Erik and Molly!
