Malaria Free Thanks to a New Mosquito net!

Emma
Dear Josh,

Emma was born at the peak of Sierra Leone’s civil war. Her father, an ex-combatant, was integrated into the Sierra Leone Army and dismissed two years later. Emma’s health is good despite the difficult circumstances surrounding her. Emma and her 5 siblings have had to rely on their neighbor’s meals to survive at times. Her father is now a fisherman earning a monthly income of about US $100. This is supplemented by what her mother, a food vendor at the local market, earns – about US $50.  These amounts together are not enough to cover the family’s basic needs.

Emma and the rest of her family live in a small apartment with a single bedroom room and a living room.  Their zinc sheet house has no electricity, no water and poor toilet facilities. Everyday after school Emma goes to the market to assist her mother with selling vegetables.  She then returns home to help prepare food for the entire family before her mother arrives home. When she grows up Emma wants to be a medical doctor. She hates getting sick and was very happy to receive a treated mosquito.  With this net, she is guaranteed to stay malaria free.

Thanks Josh for helping her stay healthy and malaria-free!
